Pnigmenos Bay Dive Site, Telendos

May 29, 2026

A calm and beginner-friendly dive filled with underwater canyons, rocky formations, and warm Aegean waters on the quiet backside of Telendos Island.

Dive Overview

Pnigmenos Bay is the first small cove located on the western side of Telendos, the small island opposite Kalymnos.

Although the dive is easy enough for beginner divers, the underwater terrain keeps it interesting even for more experienced scuba divers thanks to its underwater canyons, rock formations, and rich marine life.

Access to the site is possible only by boat.

Entry & Conditions

Because Telendos has no road network, divers usually depart from Kalymnos using inflatable boats or dive boats.

Although there is a nearby beach, approaching the site by land is impractical due to the long walking distance and rough dirt paths.

The bay is generally calm and protected, with very little current and usually excellent visibility.

Entry is performed directly from the boat, typically around the center of the cove.

After entering the water, divers swim briefly toward the left side of the bay facing the beach before descending.

What You’ll See

The dive is naturally guided by a series of underwater canyons and rocky passages that create an enjoyable and intuitive route underwater.

Depth gradually increases to approximately 15 meters, making the dive relaxed and comfortable for most certification levels.

Throughout the dive, divers encounter small and large underwater gullies where they can stop, observe marine life, and explore the rocky underwater landscape.

The area hosts abundant Mediterranean marine life and offers particularly pleasant diving conditions during warmer months when water temperatures are high and visibility is clear.

The rocky environment also creates beautiful light effects and opportunities for underwater photography.

Important Consideration

  • Boat access only
  • Rocky underwater terrain requires careful buoyancy control
  • Full wetsuits are recommended for protection around rocks
  • No significant currents under normal conditions

Depth Profile

Maximum depth during the dive is approximately 15 meters.
