Agios Stefanos dive site in Volos offers a well-balanced shore dive, combining a clean wall profile with rich macro life in the shallows.
Dive Overview
Located near the Alykes area of Volos, Agios Stefanos is an easily accessible dive site that offers both interesting topography and marine life.
After reaching the last small bay of the settlement, a short downhill path of less than 30 meters leads you to the beach. The access is straightforward, with only minor vegetation along the way.
Although the beach is not particularly popular due to its proximity to the city’s wastewater treatment facility, official measurements confirm that the water remains clean and safe.
Entry & Conditions
The beach consists of small pebbles that make entry easy and stable.
After entering the water and completing your buddy check, swim toward the right side of the beach and descend near the rocky section.
Conditions are generally calm, making it a suitable dive for a wide range of divers.
What You ‘ll See
The dive begins at around 4–5 meters, where a wall gradually forms on your right side, while a patch of seagrass on your left hosts abundant micro life.
This shallow zone is ideal for macro photography, with small shrimp and lobster-like crustaceans hiding among sponges and anemones.
Follow the lower part of the wall during your descent. The wall continues until approximately 25 meters, but divers can easily stay within the 18–20 meter range by following the upper section.
After about 15 minutes, you’ll reach the end of the wall, where large schools of damselfish often gather, creating an impressive visual scene.
If your air allows, explore the right side beyond the wall, where smaller rock formations host sponges, spirorbid worms, and additional marine life.
Important Consideration
- Proximity to urban infrastructure
- Limited popularity (quiet site)
