Kyra Leni Wreck Dive Site, Patroklos Island

May 17, 2026

The Kyra Leni wreck near Patroklos Island is one of the most popular wreck dives in Attica, offering an accessible deep recreational wreck inside a naturally protected bay.

Dive Overview

The cargo ship Kyra Leni sank in January 1978 after severe weather conditions while traveling from Lavrio toward Bulgaria.

Today, the wreck rests near Patroklos Island and has become one of the best-known wreck dives in the region.

The narrow bay beside the wreck forms a natural sheltered anchorage, often protecting dive boats from rough weather.

Access is only possible by boat.

Entry & Conditions

The surrounding coastline is extremely rocky and difficult to access from land.

Non-divers can enjoy snorkeling or swimming directly from the boat while divers explore the wreck below.

Conditions inside the bay are usually calmer compared to the surrounding open sea.

Prepare your equipment on the boat, complete all buddy checks, and descend directly toward the wreck.

What You ‘ll See

The underwater terrain naturally guides divers down toward the wreck site.

The ship lies broken into two main sections between 18 and 30 meters depth.

The wreck structure creates an atmospheric environment with exposed metal beams, broken sections, and scattered ship remains integrated into the reef environment.

Good buoyancy control is essential when swimming above the torn metal structures.

Because of the wreck’s recreational depth range, divers can explore a large portion of the site during a single dive.

Important Consideration

  • Boat access only
  • Sharp metal surfaces
  • Deep recreational profile
  • Excellent buoyancy required around wreck structure

Depth Profile

The wreck begins at approximately 18 meters and reaches a maximum depth of around 30 meters.

Tips for divers

  • Use gloves and full exposure protection
  • Maintain careful buoyancy above exposed metal sections
  • Monitor gas consumption closely at depth
  • Explore both wreck sections gradually
  • Perform a proper safety stop before surfacing

Why this dive stands Out

Kyra Leni stands out for combining easy boat access, sheltered conditions, and an impressive recreational wreck profile close to Athens.
