Profitis Ilias is one of the most popular dive sites in Attica, offering easy access, excellent visibility, and enjoyable underwater terrain suitable for divers of all experience levels.
Dive Overview
Profitis Ilias has become one of the best-known shore dives in Attica thanks to its combination of easy logistics, clear water, and flexible dive profiles.
The site is suitable for both beginner and experienced divers, while its circular underwater topography makes navigation straightforward and relaxing.
Upon arrival, divers can park in the large area below the church and walk down toward the small concrete platform where equipment preparation is easy and comfortable.
Entry & Conditions
Although the area provides direct sea access, the immediate shoreline is not ideal for casual swimming.
Nearby rocky areas and neighboring beaches are better suited for non-divers wishing to enjoy the sea.
Entry into the water is easy from the existing platform, allowing divers to complete their buddy checks and begin the dive directly.
Conditions are usually calm with very good visibility.
What You ‘ll See
The seabed follows the same circular shape as the coastline, beginning at around 3 meters depth and gradually descending.
After a short swim, divers encounter a small cave on the left side. Depending on the time of day, sunlight entering the cave creates beautiful light effects inside.
At the deeper section of the dive lies a large isolated rock formation that usually hosts abundant marine life.
For most divers, this marks the turning point of the dive before beginning the return.
Because of the circular layout of the coastline, divers also have the option to continue and exit from the neighboring bay, although this requires a longer equipment walk back to the vehicle.
Important Consideration
- Rocky shoreline access
- Long walk if exiting from neighboring bay
- Monitor gas before extending the circular route
Depth Profile
The dive begins around 3 meters and gradually descends to recreational depths suitable for all certification levels.
Tips for divers
- Explore the small cave carefully and maintain buoyancy
- Check lighting conditions for photography opportunities
- Turn the dive based on gas consumption at the isolated rock
- Agree on exit strategy with your buddy before descending
- Complete a proper safety stop before surfacing
Why this dive stands Out
Profitis Ilias stands out for offering easy shore access, excellent visibility, and a relaxing underwater route suitable for nearly every diver.
