Kipos Dive Site, Samothraki

May 28, 2026

Wild volcanic scenery, rocky underwater formations, and flexible depth profiles make Kipos one of the most enjoyable and adaptable shore dives in Samothraki.

Dive Overview

The dive at Kipos Beach combines the rugged atmosphere of Samothraki with varied underwater terrain and abundant marine life.

The site offers multiple depth options, allowing divers to tailor the dive according to experience level and preferences.

From shallow rocky exploration to deeper blue-water descents, Kipos provides an enjoyable dive suitable for a wide range of recreational divers.

Entry & Conditions

Access is extremely easy, as the paved road reaches directly down to the beach where divers can park close to the entry point.

The beach is exposed to eastern and southern winds, so conditions should always be checked before diving.

Entry is usually made from the right side of the beach near the rocks.

The shoreline consists mainly of pebbles, which can become uncomfortable without proper footwear.

During summer months, a small beach canteen operates nearby.

What You’ll See

After entering the water, divers descend while keeping the shoreline on their right side and following the rocky formations.

The underwater terrain features alternating rock formations, sloping walls, and open sections that create pleasant variations throughout the dive.

The site can offer significant depth if divers move farther away from shore, while shallower routes remain suitable for less experienced divers.

Marine life is abundant, with reef fish, octopus, nudibranchs, and various Mediterranean species commonly encountered among the rocks and cracks.

Visibility is often excellent, especially during calm weather conditions.

Important Consideration

  • Pebble beach can be uncomfortable barefoot
  • Depth increases quickly farther from shore

Depth Profile

The site allows for flexible dive planning, with shallow routes available while deeper sections can exceed recreational limits if divers move offshore.
