Katafygi dive site in Attica is a shallow, bright, and beginner-friendly shore dive with easy access and relaxed underwater exploration.
Dive Overview
Katafygi is one of the easiest and most accessible dives in Attica.
With minimal gear carrying, almost no surface swim, shallow depth, and plenty of natural light, it is ideal for new divers or anyone looking for a relaxed recreational dive.
The dive starts from the right side of the bay when facing the sea.
Entry & Conditions
The site is easy to access by car, and non-divers can comfortably join the trip to enjoy the beach and swim.
If you have a compass, take entry and exit bearings before descending, as the scattered rock formations and lack of a continuous visual reference can make orientation slightly confusing.
After your buddy checks, swim a short distance offshore and descend once you pass the large shallow rock slab.
What You ‘ll See
The dive begins at around 6–7 meters over a sandy bottom with scattered patches of Posidonia seagrass.
Following a southwest heading of approximately 220–230 degrees, you will reach the first isolated rock formations.
Take your time exploring the area, as the site hosts plenty of macro life hidden among the rocks.
The depth increases gradually to around 19 meters, allowing for a long and relaxed dive with low air consumption.
Even in the very shallow sections, the underwater terrain remains interesting and well-lit, making it ideal for photography.
Important Consideration
- Compass navigation recommended
- Easy to lose orientation among scattered rocks
- Posidonia areas should be avoided
