Sterna Dive Site, Loutraki

May 8, 2026

Sterna dive site in Loutraki is an impressive wall dive featuring dramatic underwater topography, deep profiles, and a beautiful sheltered beach.

Dive Overview

Sterna is one of the most visually impressive shore dives near Loutraki, combining steep underwater walls with easy beach access.

At the time this guide was written (Summer 2022), access to the beach was via a rough but passable dirt road. Low-clearance cars may struggle in some sections, so approach carefully.

Divers can park either close to the beach itself or at the nearby taverna parking area, which provides easy stair access down to the shore.

Entry & Conditions

The beach takes its name from the natural rock pool (“sterna”) located on its northern side.

It is a beautiful sandy beach, ideal not only for diving but also for snorkeling and relaxed swimming. Apart from the nearby taverna, there are no additional facilities in the immediate area.

Entry is straightforward. After completing your buddy checks, swim toward the rocks on the northwestern side of the beach.

What You ‘ll See

As you approach the large rock formation, the seabed quickly reaches approximately 10 meters depth.

Shortly after descending, the main wall begins to form, dropping dramatically down to around 40 meters. Beyond the wall, deeper terraces continue toward even greater depths for properly trained divers.

The dive offers impressive underwater morphology and abundant marine life throughout the route, even in the shallower sections.

Divers can easily adapt the profile according to their certification level, making the site enjoyable both for moderate-depth recreational dives and deeper exploration.

Important Consideration

  • Dirt road access
  • Rapid depth increase

  • Return via a shallower route for a relaxed ascent
