Kavos Dive Site, Skyros

Apr 13, 2026

Kavos dive site in Skyros is a sheltered shore dive known for its rich macro life and one of the best night dives in Greece.

Dive Overview

Located near the port of Linaria in Skyros, Kavos is one of the most reliable shore dives on the island, especially when strong northern winds are present.

With extremely easy access and high biodiversity, it is a favorite spot for both day and night dives. Its proximity to the harbor makes it convenient, while underwater it offers a surprisingly rich environment.

Preparation takes place just a few meters from the water, although during summer the area may be used as extended parking for the port, slightly limiting access.

Entry & Conditions

The site is accessed directly from shore, only a few meters from the parking area.

Although close to the harbor, the area is used for swimming and snorkeling, so be mindful of designated anchoring zones marked by buoys.

Entry is easy — walk into the water until waist depth and then put on your fins.

An alternative entry is via the boat ramp, but this requires extra caution and a fully inflated BCD.

Watch out for ropes from small boats and sea urchins in the shallow zone.

What You ‘ll See

Kavos is all about biodiversity. Due to the absence of large-scale fishing activity, marine life thrives in this area.

You’ll encounter an abundance of spirorbid worms, shrimp, crabs, and a wide variety of nudibranchs.

The dive is relatively shallow and easy to navigate. During the first half, keep the shallow area on your right, and after approximately 60–70 meters, return with it on your left.

At night, the site truly comes alive, making it one of the best night dive locations in Greece.

Important Consideration

  • Boat traffic near harbor
  • Ropes and anchoring lines
  • Sea urchins
  • Limited space during summer

Depth Profile

The dive remains shallow, starting at 3–4 meters and gradually extending slightly deeper.
