The international diving community is mourning the death of Adam Jacoub, an experienced technical and cave diving instructor who died following a technical diving incident on July 18, 2026.
At this stage, very little verified information has been released about the circumstances of the incident. Its location, exact nature and cause have not yet been officially confirmed.

An Experienced and Respected Instructor
According to a tribute published by Diventures Magazine, Jacoub had approximately 25 years of diving experience and held qualifications through organisations including PADI, SSI, TDI and IAHD.
Throughout his career, he reportedly trained hundreds of students, from complete beginners to advanced technical divers. His work also included freediving and adaptive diving, helping people with physical disabilities experience the underwater world.
Students and colleagues remembered him for his patience, calm approach and ability to make divers feel safe and confident.
A Voice for Diving Safety
Only weeks before his death, Jacoub appeared on the Divers’ Tales Podcast to discuss the fatal cave-diving accident in the Maldives.
During the conversation, he spoke about the demands of technical and cave diving, the limits of experience and the importance of preparation, judgement and teamwork in overhead environments.
For now, the responsible approach is to remember Adam Jacoub’s contribution to diving while allowing investigators and those directly involved to establish the facts.
