Theiafi Dive Site, Sounio

May 17, 2026

Theiafi is a beautiful shallow dive between Legrena and Sounio, known for its rich macro life, rocky reef formations, and relaxed underwater exploration.

Dive Overview

Theiafi is a calm and enjoyable shore dive ideal for divers who appreciate macro life and underwater terrain rather than extreme depth.

Located inside a sheltered bay between Legrena and Cape Sounio, the site offers easy navigation, interesting rock formations, and long bottom times due to its shallow profile.

The dive is especially popular among underwater photographers thanks to the abundance of nudibranchs and small marine life.

Entry & Conditions

Park carefully in the roadside opening near the site.

Divers with a 4×4 vehicle can descend closer to the water via the dirt track, avoiding a longer equipment carry. However, erosion and rain damage often create difficult sections on the road, so caution is necessary.

The shoreline is rocky and requires careful movement, but there is a flat platform suitable for gearing up.

Non-divers joining the trip should bring a mask, as the shallow underwater terrain is also excellent for snorkeling.

Entry into the Water

After entering the water, perform a short surface swim with the road on your left shoulder.

After approximately 100 meters, descend onto a beautiful isolated rock formation at around 5 meters depth.

What You ‘ll See

From the isolated rock, follow a heading roughly perpendicular to the road at approximately 200–210 degrees.

Soon, a small underwater ridge becomes clearly visible.

The reef combines interesting underwater topography with abundant macro life, especially nudibranchs — including the commonly seen “sea cow” species.

The area also hosts large amounts of small marine life hidden among the rocks and cracks.

Toward the end of the reef, pay close attention to the larger crevices beneath the rocks, which often hide interesting creatures.

Because the dive remains relatively shallow, divers usually have plenty of gas remaining for slow exploration and photography.

Important Consideration

  • Rocky shoreline access
  • Dirt road access may be damaged by weather
  • Surface swim required
  • Macro-focused dive requiring slow navigation

Depth Profile

The dive remains shallow, with depths ranging from 5 meters to approximately 18–20 meters.

Tips for divers

  • Move slowly and observe carefully for macro life
  • Bring a torch for inspecting rock crevices
  • Excellent site for underwater photography
  • Maintain buoyancy near fragile reef areas
  • Use the long bottom time to fully explore the reef

Why this dive stands Out
