Lefteris – Vera Wreck Dive Site, Magnesia

May 15, 2026

The Vera wreck at Lefteris Reef is a scenic recreational wreck dive featuring two large ship sections resting on a plateau surrounded by clear blue water.

Dive Overview

In February 1999, after suffering steering failure, the cargo ship Vera ran aground on Lefteris Reef.

Some time later, the ship broke in half, and today both sections rest relatively close to each other at depths between 16 and 25 meters.

Compared to the deeper Volos wreck on the same reef, Vera offers a more accessible wreck dive while still maintaining the dramatic scenery and current conditions that characterize Lefteris Reef.

Access is only possible by boat.

Entry & Conditions

The Lefteris Reef area is known for changing currents and open-sea exposure. It is strongly recommended to have someone remain on the boat during the dive.

Non-divers can still enjoy snorkeling around the shallow reef sections, which offer beautiful underwater visibility and marine life.

The wreck lies generally south of the lighthouse. Visibility is often excellent, and the wreck can frequently be spotted from the surface using only a mask.

After completing your buddy check, descend heading south toward the wreck.

What You ‘ll See

Both wreck sections rest on a large plateau located south of the lighthouse at depths ranging from approximately 20 to 25 meters.

The two ship sections lie relatively close together, allowing divers to explore both during a single dive.

The wreck structure has become integrated into the surrounding reef environment, creating an atmospheric combination of metal structure and marine life.

As with all wreck dives, sharp and rusted metal surfaces are present throughout the site.

Important Consideration

  • Boat access only
  • Possible strong currents
  • Sharp metal surfaces
  • Open-sea conditions

Depth Profile

Tips for divers

  • Maintain good buoyancy around the wreck structure
  • Use gloves and full exposure protection

  • Follow a conservative profile if combining dives on the reef
  • Complete all required safety stops before surfacing
