Mandri dive site in Pelion is a remote and rewarding shore dive, known for its deep profile and rare gorgonian formations accessible from land.
Dive Overview
Located a few kilometers from Agia Kyriaki, near Agia Vasso beach, Mandri is a secluded dive site that offers a more adventurous experience.
Just before reaching the beach, turn right toward “Mandri” and park near the shepherd’s facilities. During summer, the area is usually quiet, and you’ll likely have the entire site to yourself.
From the parking area, a moderately difficult 150-meter path leads down to the beach. Many divers prefer gearing up at the car to avoid multiple trips.
Entry & Conditions
The beach is small and rarely crowded due to the challenging access. Depending on weather conditions, debris may occasionally be present.
The seabed is rocky and deepens relatively quickly, with clear water and interesting terrain from the very beginning.
Entry is direct — after your checks, descend immediately.
What You ‘ll See
Start your dive by following the left side of the small bay, roughly along a 210° heading. The natural contours will guide you deeper without the need for strict navigation.
You’ll encounter large rocky formations covered in sponges and marine growth. Pay close attention to the vegetation, as nudibranchs are frequently found in this area.
Between 27 and 35 meters, one of the most impressive features of the dive appears: gorgonians. It is quite rare to encounter such formations at a shore-accessible site, making this a highlight of the dive.
Maintain excellent buoyancy control to avoid damaging these delicate structures.
For those equipped and trained for deeper dives, the site continues beyond 40 meters, although the main highlight remains the gorgonian zone.
Important Consideration
- Steep path to the beach
- Deep dive profile
- Fragile gorgonians (buoyancy control required)
Depth Profile
The dive starts shallow and quickly descends, with key features between 27–35 meters and depths exceeding 40 meters for advanced divers.
Tips for divers
- Follow the left side of the bay (~210° heading)
- Monitor your depth and no-decompression limits
- Turn the dive early enough to allow a safe return
- Maintain perfect buoyancy near gorgonians
- Plan your dive profile carefully with your buddy
- Complete your safety stop at 5 meters
