Limenarxis Reef Dive Site, Loutraki

May 11, 2026

Limenarxis Reef in the Corinthian Gulf is a dramatic wall and cavern dive featuring deep blue drop-offs, swim-throughs, and strong underwater scenery for experienced divers.

Dive Overview

Limenarxis Reef is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the Corinthian Gulf, northeast of Melagkavi Lighthouse.

Access is possible only by boat. Approximately two nautical miles after passing the lighthouse, the reef becomes visible thanks to the distinctive white column built on top of it.

A small chapel once stood on the column, but harsh winter weather eventually destroyed it. Today, its remains rest underwater at approximately 3 meters depth west of the reef.

The dive site combines steep walls, caverns, drift diving, and deep blue-water exposure, making it one of the most spectacular advanced dives in the area.

Entry & Conditions

The boat can safely anchor around 30 meters southwest of the column at approximately 5 meters depth.

This site is recommended only for experienced divers, as mild currents are almost always present.

Because the area is frequently crossed by recreational boats, the use of DSMBs and dive flags is essential.

There is no shore access due to the steep and rocky coastline.

Entry is performed either with a giant stride from larger boats or a back roll from inflatables.

What You ‘ll See

After completing a bubble check, descend onto the reef at around 5 meters depth.

A pale sandy strip acts as a natural pathway leading west toward a large oval-shaped rock formation. Beyond it begins a vertical wall dropping into deep blue water, with terraces extending toward greater depths.

At around 17 meters, a beautiful cavern opens on the right side of the wall. Divers can enter one at a time and observe a spectacular chimney extending toward the surface, where sunlight creates dramatic lighting effects.

Continuing along the wall, the dive reveals rich marine life, colorful corals, and impressive underwater topography.

During ascent, at approximately 12 meters depth, a second cavern appears. This spacious swim-through extends diagonally upward from 12 to 7 meters and features another illuminated chimney and a larger internal chamber.

Near the cavern entrance lies an old dead pen shell (“Pinna”), often described as the guardian of the site.

After exiting the cavern, divers continue westward, passing the top of the reef and the white column before enjoying a relaxed drift dive back toward the boat.

Important Consideration

  • Boat access only
  • Mild but constant current
  • Heavy boat traffic in the area
  • Deep wall profile
  • Cavern overhead environments
  • DSMB strongly recommended

Depth Profile

The dive begins at approximately 5 meters and extends well beyond recreational limits depending on the chosen profile.

Tips for divers

  • Maintain excellent buoyancy inside the caverns
  • Use a DSMB during ascent and safety stop
  • Follow a conservative dive profile due to current and depth
  • Carry a torch for cavern exploration
  • Enter caverns one diver at a time
  • Monitor depth closely along the wall

Why this dive stands Out

Limenarxis Reef stands out for combining dramatic walls, illuminated caverns, drift diving, and open blue-water scenery in one of the most atmospheric dives of the Corinthian Gulf.
